"WOMEN ARE HEROES," A PHOTO INTERVENTION PROJECT IN RIO

French photographer JR used to do graffiti before, and now he combines both practices in his long term ambitious project "Women Are Heroes," travelling the world to photograph women whose relatives died as victims of violence, and plastering the huge portraits on the place they live. He went to Kenya, Sudan, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, and also made installations in Paris.

JR went to Rio in 2008 as part of the Year of France in Brazil and spent some time in the slum Morro da Providência making his art. Be sure to click on the images to see them big, or just go to the gallery of Rio photos, in itself worth seeing.
