MATO GROSSO'S CRISTALINO PARK SLIDESHOW

The Guardian has a cool slideshow of Cristalino State Park's fauna.

After more than three years of work by Fauna & Flora International (FFI) and other organisations, the management plan for Brazil's 184,000-hectare Cristalino state park has finally been completed.

The park, in Mato Grosso, is one of the most biodiverse reserves in the region. But lack of management means it remains under serious threat from fire and illegal logging. Little is known about the botanical diversity of the region, and regional capacity for research is limited.

The three-year plan will determine how the state-run park will be managed in terms of research, conservation and education, and ensure that local people are involved.
