The circled area above shows the 8,500 square metres (around 90,000 square feet) of one single cashew tree. It's in Pirangi Beach, outskirts of Natal, capital of Rio Grande do Norte state, northeast of Brazil. The 100-year-old fellow has a genetic anomaly: its branches grow down instead of up, and when they touch the ground, they create new roots. This is not rare with cashew trees, but it's rare that it would grow so much. I've been there, it's a fun and magic experience to walk in a park covered by one single organism.
It's on the Guinness Book of Records, and it produces 2,5 tons of cashew fruit per season. Yum.
