THE GOOD BLOOD SALUTES CHACRINHA

Hello Internet, it's good to be here with you. This is the first post of my blog about stuff that is Brazilian. I won't promise anything. I can't even promise you that I won't talk about soccer, açaí berry, Carnival, jiu-jitsu, and Brazilian wax (there, I just screwed my Google ads for this post). All I can say is that I will try to follow the teachings of Abelardo Barbosa, aka Chacrinha, a TV and radio host who had several successful TV shows spanning several decades. Those shows became the definition of an aesthetic or sensibility that I wish to embrace as fundamentally Brazilian: it includes chaos, irony, humour, and an innocence full of joy. Chacrinha would throw salted codfish to his audience with no reason whatsoever except maybe seeing people fighting over it ("Who wants cod?" He'd yell with a naughty smile), give pineapples to failed singing contestants as a consolation prize, and dress up in outrageous costumes that today would be banned in some places (the baby one was rather creepy). It was performance art at its best. Saravá, Chacrinha! And I declare this shop open.

I came to confound, not to explain.
